A Guide’s Take on the Guide Tour 45+

The Deuter Guide series packs are starting to transform with little tweaks that are making them more versatile than ever. The Guide Lite series is lightening things up while the new Guide Tour 45+ is taking versatility to an extreme. Whether backcountry skiing, heading to the local crag for some sport climbing, or venturing into the alpine, the Guide Tour 45+ is made for every activity you might consider doing in the mountains.

The pack is made for the long haul with its durable fabric and alpine back system. The pack can easily haul upwards of 60lbs and allows the ability to add the external side pockets to increase the amount of space by 10L more. With this add-on, you could potentially be in the mountains for many days without resupplying.

The pack is set up to haul skis, a snowboard, and ice tools. It even contains a crampon protector to conveniently strap your spikes to the back of the pack so they won’t poke or catch anything. As per the usual specs for the Guide series packs, it has handy gear loops for racking all your alpine climbing protection in an easy to retrieve position for the strenuous, technical routes you may find yourself on while using a pack of this caliber.

A few more features I found useful were the sunglasses pouch and the helmet holder. The sunglasses pouch holds your glasses right on the shoulder strap for easy-access as well as keeping them out of the pack so they won’t become crushed. The helmet holder keeps the bulk in the pack down which will allow a bit of extra room for the week-long trip.
