Deuter Goes Old School Cool With a Fun New Backpack

Held each summer in Salt Lake City, Outdoor Retailer Summer Market is North America’s largest summer lifestyle and sports industry trade show, bringing retailers and media together with more than 1,000 brands in the active outdoor lifestyle business. Needless to say, there was more than one backpack brand there ... but none of them had as much fun as we did.

Deuter, of course, attends OR. We’ve been quiet, reserved neighbors to other booths over the past few summers, each year showing off new packs in our quiet and reserved (or German) way.

That changed this year. We had a party. A big ol’ party that paid homage to Deuter’s German heritage (beer steins, authentic pretzels, Old World music, Lederhosen) in a newly designed booth. We gave away prizes from the likes of JulboSOG Knives & Tools and Clif Bar.

We went big.

Pictures say more than words, and these photos from New England sales rep Joe Scavo say a whole lot -- in both German and English.

Why the Party? A few reasons ...

  • Reinforce our German lineage
  • Show off our new booth
  • See our friends and supporters in a more casual setting
  • And, most importantly, to raise money for our partners at Leave No Trace
How’d we do? Our little biergarten raised nearly $7,000 for Leave No Trace. And we certainly upped the fun level.

Oh, and we also showed off our new Groden. These sweet around-town looking, but technically sound packs will be out to retailers in late winter. German engineering, German beer, German food? Danke schon.
