Deuter ACT Zero 50+15 Backpack Receives Outside Magazine’s Gear of the Year Award

Deuter, worldwide leader in backpacks and outdoor gear, is honored to announce the ACT Zero 50+15 backpack as the 2011 Gear of the Year from Outside Magazine. Outside Magazine’s Spring / Summer Buyers Guide, on newsstands now, features the Gear of the Year awards.

"It was that rare pack that we ended up using on just about ever mission," says Buyer's Guide editor Sam Moulton. "The suspension system easily handled big loads, but it was still light and breathable enough for faster, shorter outings. It’s an incredibly versatile pack at a great price.”

“Deuter is incredibly honored to receive Gear of the Year for the ACT Zero,” says Christian Mason, Deuter USA’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “Being recognized for our unique and innovative design of this pack really is a measure of our company, philosophy and how we are progressing into the North American market.”

The ACT Zero features the Aircontact back system, reducing perspiration by 15% and providing comfort the moment you put it on your back. The sister to the ACT Zero 50+15 is our ACT Zero 45+15 SL. These packs are a part of the popular and top-selling ACT Lite line. Ranging from the ACT Lite 40+10 at MSRP $169 to the ACT Lite 65+10 at MSRP $189.

Outside is excited to unveil its favorite 325 favorite products. Our testers and editors spent several months torture testing the latest crop of sleeping bags, tents, shells, trail shoes, and packs in more than a dozen states. As always, the products you’ll find in this year’s guide represent only the best-performing gear available. Our Pennsylvania-based hiking shoe and boot tester initially called in 63 shoe models (108 pairs). In the end, only nine made the final cut. Down south, in Tucson, Arizona, we conducted our largest bike test to date, starting with an initial crop of 58 mountain and road bikes.

The Outside Spring/Summer Buyer's Guide not only highlights the very best in adventure gear, from sports equipment, tools, and gadgets to footwear, outerwear, and sunglasses, but also calls out the best values in each class. This year’s issue contains over two dozen Killer Values—as well as 125 products under $100—in everything from mountain-bike shoes to waterproof cameras. Organized according to sport and activity, the Spring/Summer Buyer's Guide is the ultimate resource for product reviews, technology, news, and tips.

Now in its 16th year, our annual Spring/Summer Buyer’s reaches over 1.3 million frequent gear purchasers. It will be on newsstands all summer, from April 26th to September 27th. Plus, new this year, you’ll be able to purchase an enhanced Summer.
